Meet a Boston International Newcomers Academy Star: Jeff

This Giving Tuesday, we’re celebrating our successes in order to inspire more

The Boston International Newcomers Academy is home to a special Scholar Athletes Zone. Along with dedication and an eagerness for learning, 100% of BINcA Zone Members start out with a first language other than English. The Zone is where young people learn healthy habits that translate into academic success, and this Giving Tuesday, we’re bringing you the stories of our Zone champions.

Meet Jeff. He’s an all-star Zone Member based out of the Boston International Newcomers Academy (BINcA, for short). His program manager, Lauren, was thrilled to tell us about what it was like to work with Jeff.

Our Giving Tuesday inspiration: from student to mentor

A strong sense of character and the ability to overcome obstacles is part of what helps Jeff succeed. In 2010, Jeff survived the magnitude 7 earthquake that devastated Haiti. Here in Boston, Jeff is known to light up a room as a friend and mentor to all. In class, Jeff nurtures relationships with his peers, supporting them and sharing helpful advice; he deeply cares for those around him.

And he’s succeeding. Jeff served as a team captain, bringing his unique sense of drive and motivation to his teammates. He has become a terrific mentor, providing well-rounded guidance to his younger peers as they mature into young adults as well.

Jeff had the opportunity to interview Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey. Watch here!

You can help us create even more opportunity

We’re so proud of Jeff here in the Scholar Athletes family as we watch him demonstrate leadership in the classroom and on the field and courts.

On Giving Tuesday, we’re making it possible for achievers like Jeff to learn and grow in the Zone. For Giving Tuesday 2019, we’re asking for your help to reach a $5,000 goal, which will supply the Zone at BINcA with the resources it needs to operate.

Please donate here – any amount helps. Thank you!
