External Engagement Coordinator

Position Summary:

The External Engagement Coordinator’s main responsibility will be to support the Associate Director of External Engagement in the management and further development of institutional partnerships as it relates to the Scholarship, Volunteer and the Alumni Programs. He/She will be responsible for recruiting, onboarding and managing high-caliber volunteers from the higher education, volunteer/service organizations and business sectors of Metro-Boston and Springfield, and work with supervisor and Director of Learning and Program Development to develop a training program for our volunteers. S/he will support the Alumni Program through annual events and opportunities to connect alums to the SA community.

Status: Exempt/Salary

• Support all elements of SA’s Volunteer Program, including but not limited to:
o Support partnerships with local colleges and businesses to recruit SA volunteers and mentors in coordination with the EEAD;
o Building broader awareness of SA volunteer opportunities through community and corporate engagement practices;
o In coordination with the EEAD and the Director of Learning and Program Development create enhanced systems to on-board and continuously train and support volunteers;
o Visit school-based Zones and SA Health and Wellness programming to ensure volunteer/mentor support is aligned with program activities and Zone member needs;
o Maintain and track effective processes and schedules by which volunteers are assigned to Zones;
o Maintain frequent, and consistent communication with supervisor, Program Managers, Coordinators, and key SA staff on all matters related to the volunteer program regarding placements, recruitment, and partnerships;
• Support Scholarship Program including but not limited to:
o Support implementation of scholarship policies, procedures, and operations to ensure efficient and accurate distribution of scholarships;
o Help plan, evaluate, and monitor annual goals including data collection and tracking
o Support all aspects of scholarship program including but not limited to student application, award timelines, communication and coordination with respective college and university points of contact;
o Monitor, track and support each scholarship recipient to ensure they maintain their scholarship eligibility including but not limited to connecting recipients to on-campus supports and facilitating completion of volunteer hours in the Zones
o Research external scholarship opportunities and communicate with SA staff about opportunities for Zone members to receive additional scholarships
• Support Alumni Engagement Efforts
o Support alumni engagement strategy through both SA and SA Alumni annual events and regular communication through social media/newsletter and other mediums.
Research and help identify professional development opportunities to support career exploration through job opportunities, workshops and events;
• Support data collection, evaluation and reporting related to SA Volunteer, Alumni and Scholarship Programs;
• Other related duties as assigned.

Professional Requirements:
Scholar Athletes is seeking an experienced professional with a minimum of 2-3 years of successful volunteer/staff recruitment and management experience, preferably in an academic and youth development setting. Qualified candidates will have significant experience managing intricate relationships in a sophisticated organization with a reputation for excellence and a demonstrable track record of personally identifying, cultivating, and managing volunteers and/or staff to support organizational goals.

In addition, s/he will have:
• A Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent years of experience
• A track record as an effective communicator; highly developed skills in writing and speaking
• Experience leading self-directed projects, including the ability to generate effective workplans and to execute on schedule
• Proven success in managing relationships with external partners
• An ability to receive and positively respond to feedback
• Passion for nonprofit work, preferably in the field of education
• A comfort level for working under pressure to meet deadlines; sound organizational skills
• An ability to thrive in a fast-paced, data-driven environment
